A Behind the Scenes Look At Dr. Wall's Talk at Stanford's Big Data in Biomedicine Conference

This week, Stanford Medicine hosted their yearly Big Data in Biomedicine Conference. At the conference, Dr. Wall presented the lab’s work using big data. In this interview, he talks on leveraging questionnaires and YouTube videos to give a quantitative probability for clinicians to use towards diagnosing autism. While the talk will be uploaded in its entirety at the conference’s conclusion, right now we have a behind the scenes look at the talk.

Sherlock Gets Its Photo Taken!

Stanford’s new research computing resource center, in Stanford’s SLAC facility, was recently featured on the Stanford Medicine “Scope” blog. The post highlights Stanford Medicine’s commitment to applied computing towards big data in medicine and indicated that a significant portion of the clusters are setup for use by the School of Medicine.

Although computing space at the Stanford Research Computing Center is available to faculty across campus, one-third is allocated to the School of Medicine, which says something about the growing importance of big data and computation in medical technology.

The Wall Lab, calls upon its portion of the computing center “Sherlock” to aid in our mission in solving autism.

Dr Wall and Dr Tonellato to give a keynote at Amazon Reinvent Conference

Dennis P. Wall (HMS) and Peter J. Tonellato (HMS, UWM, ZSPH) are invited speakers in the Amazon sponsored event “re:Invent” (November 12th-15th, Las Vegas) presenting a keynote lecture titled “The promise and problem of translational genetics and a step to the clouded solution of scalable clinical whole genome sequencing.”

Announcing Puzzle Mouse

The Wall Lab has launched a new website that will advance our research into use of home videos and web technology for autism detection, and bring it a step closer to clinical applicability.

PuzzleMouse provides a way for parents to participate in this research by uploading short videos of their children who have been tested for an Autism Spectrum Disorder. We are seeking participation from caregivers of children 7 years and younger.

Leticia

We would like to welcome Leticia Díaz Beltrán back to the Wall Lab for a year-long exchange from the University of Jaén. Leticia will be investigating the genetic overlap between autism and autoimmune disease. Her stay at Harvard Medical School is a product of last year’s partnership between the two institutions.
